Outsourcing Responsibilities (AI)
The topic of the moment is artificial intelligence. Thousands of people are sharing how AI can and will help us with tasks, making our lives more productive and better. But is that really true? Time will tell! Meanwhile, how about we take a moment to reflect? Does the internet and all technological advancements help you be more productive? To me, it seems the opposite. I feel like our days seem shorter than when I was a child, back when information was much less abundant. Today, I get the sense that we do everything daily: a session with a psychologist, listening to historians and critics from all fields, leaving our productivity adrift.
Have you ever stopped to ask why Artificial Intelligence is called that? In simple terms, I can say that it is fed with various pieces of information, which go through a validation process to separate facts from lies, good from bad — all based on pre-defined concepts. But at its core, AI is about practicing combinations of outcomes, between right and wrong. Recently, I watched a race with robotic mice where programmers designed algorithms to make their robots reach the goal as quickly as possible. These algorithms were essentially trial and error: "If this happens along the way, go back and take another path."
However, the complexity of these algorithms grows to the point where we call it Artificial Intelligence. In truth, it's just an imitation (remember this word!) of what we, humans, are capable of doing. I want to emphasize that we are the incredible machines capable of cloning parts of our behavior into other machines. But what would happen to us if we outsourced all our work?
Think physically: imagine you have a robot that can shop for you, fetch your food, and even bring it to your mouth, without you having to leave your bed. How "optimized" would your life become? Could there be harm to your physical health? I'm not a doctor, but it makes me think that the final outcome wouldn't be positive.
Now, consider the cognitive side: imagine not needing to perform calculations or be creative anymore because you can ask an AI to create a song, and it’s ready. You have a stress-free band without any member conflicts. Or maybe you want to create a super-smart computer program to manage your finances. Wouldn't that be interesting? But what about your mental health? How would it hold up after two years of doing absolutely nothing, outsourcing all your activities? Would you feel proud of a painting "made" by your artificial intelligence?
I've been working with technology for over 20 years, and I love technological evolution. But with this post, I want to encourage you to create content for your audience instead of asking a robot to make a viral post. I want to inspire you to deliver something authentic to your loved ones based on your own experiences, not something generated by AI. Use your intelligence to seek diverse knowledge with the help of artificial intelligence, but don’t let it do the work for you.
